Note from the Author

Greywalker launched the series about  paranormal P.I. Haper Blaine in 2006 to extraordinary sales for a first novel. The series hit National Bestseller status in 2008, to my unexpected joy. The books were translated into German, French, Polish, Russian, and Chinese, and marketed all over the world in print, audio, and ebook format.

I enjoyed Harper’s adventures in the Grey very much, but by 2013, I was running out of really cool ideas, and sales were slumping. I figured it was time to let the series go—and give poor Harper a chance to live a normal life beyond the page—rather than create disappointing books. So in 2014 Revenant, the ninth book, was the last, although I did get a few short stories about Harper and her friends out into the world in varous anthologies and online venues before and after. I’m incredibly flattered by the enthusiasm of fans for the stories and characters, and while I don’t have plans to produce more Greywalker Novels right now, the future is always full of possibility.

This spooky, occasionally terrifying, and sometimes funny book plays like a mash-up of Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files and the Kinsey Millhone mysteries by Sue Grafton. …Offers the welcome prospect of a whole series of sequels. — Robin D. Fish Jr. A Fort Made of Books.

A college psychology experiment may have created a very real ghost. When the mind games lead to murder most gruesome that’s just the beginning….

An intriguing mystery and a resourceful sleuth who grows stronger in her knowledge of her transformed self.– Library Journal

Harper’s charmingly stubborn, the liminal world of the grey is fascinating, and some of the peripheral characters are intriguing in their own right, adding up to make this one of the most interesting in the latest crop of supernatural mystery series.–Locus

A sharp, sinister urban fantasy that blends storytelling and real Seattle history. Thoughtful, painstakingly researched, and engaging, this series is perfect for fantasy/horror fans looking for something more than a spine-tingling cheap thrill.–Wordcandy

Greywalker Novel #3

Underground

The dead are piling up in Seattle during the coldest winter on record, but some of them won’t stay down and it’s not the cold that’s killing them…

Pioneer Square’s homeless are turning up dead and mutilated, and zombies have been seen roaming the underground–the city buried beneath modern Seattle. When Harper’s friend Quinton believes he may be implicated in the deaths, he persuades her to investigate. But the killer is no mere murderer–it is a creature of ancient legend. And Harper must deal with both the living and the dead to stop the monster and its master…unless they stop her first.

She sets out to find his ghost but encounters only a void where he should be, leaving her with more unanswered questions.

Greywalker Novel #5

Labyrinth

Harper has discovered some of the dark secrets of her own past; now she’ll have to use her burgeoning and terrifying powers to change her future. Or die trying.

Just back from London, Harper picked up some new skills while she was away. But instead of taking the time to hone them, she’d rather focus on what’s important. Like finding the two-bit perp who “killed” her. She’s convinced he’s a valuable clue in the puzzle of her past and her missing father, as well as a key to figuring out who’s trying to manipulate her powers and why.

There’s just one problem. Turns out the man who “killed” her was murdered himself while she was away. Lucky for Harper, she has an airtight alibi, but that doesn’t mean the police are going to play nice. With Seattle’s recent surge in violence—thanks to the vampires—she’s already under suspicion. Which means Harper has to watch her step. Because finding the ghost of her “killer”—and rescuing her father—will mean entering into the Grey. And with her growing powers pulling her more deeply into that paranormal world, Harper’s afraid she may not be able to come back out…

“Richardson’s once-playful Harper is clearly becoming a supernatural force to be reckoned with.”—Publishsers Weekly

“Standing head and shoulders above the plethora of urban fantasies, Richardson’s latest tale should appeal to fans of Jim Butcher’s “Dresden Files” and Tanya Huff’s Victoria Nelson series.”—Library Journal

“Richardson pulls out all the stops making this novel a fast-paced and terrifying ride. Richardson’s ability to spin a complex and riveting story is undeniable and the proof is on the page. Kudos!”(4.5 stars)—Romantic Times Book Reviews

“(T)he Greywalker saga is the very best paranormal fantasy out there.”—Paul Goat Allen, Barnes and Noble Book Club

“Harper is one hell of a protagonist.”—Crimespree Magazine

Greywalker Novel #6

Downpour

Death can’t keep Harper down for long. She’s hot on the trail of a forgotten murder in a scenic resort where magic is thicker than the blood of its victims.

After being shot in the back and dying—again—Harper’s recovery has been hard. She’s lost a great many of the powers she’d acquired since first becoming a Greywalker, and Harper knows that if she dies again, she won’t be coming back.

Her only respite from the chaos is her work. But while conducting a pre-trial investigation in the Olympic Peninsula, she envisions a fatal car accident for which there are no records. Worse still, the victim of the wreck insists he was actually murdered, and that the nearby town of Sunset Lake—called “Blood Lake” by locals—is to blame.

The picturesque town is as unlikely a haven for conspiracy and malignant magic as Harper’s ever seen. But she soon learns that the icy waters of the lake hide a terrible power, and a host of hellish beings. And both are held under the thrall of a sinister cabal that will use the darkest of arts to achieve their fiendish ends…

“Reading a Greywalker novel is the pinnacle of literary escapism for me. It’s full immersion from the very first words. Downpour begins in typical Richardson style – a brilliant hook and a subtle reference to Chandler all in the first few sentences.”–Paul Goat Allen, Barnes and Noble Explorations SF/F Blog

“Original and unique. …Puts a new spin on the entire private investigator angle, and is utterly fascinating.”–The Ranting Dragon

“Hard to put down.”–Falcata Times

“One of the best examples of true urban fantasy.”–Night Owl Paranormal

Seawitch

More than a quarter century ago, the Seawitch cruised away from her dock and disappeared with everyone on board. Now, the boat has mysteriously returned to her old berth in Seattle and the insurance company has hired Harper to find out what happened. But Harper is not the only one investigating. Seattle Police Detective Rey Solis is a good cop, albeit one who isn’t comfortable with the creepy cases that always seem to end up in Harper’s lap.

As they explore the abandoned vessel, Harper and Solis discover a cabin containing symbols drawn in human blood, a haunted engine room containing an artifact that should never have been aboard, and a log book that hints at dark events leading up to the ship’s original disappearance. But the search for answers leads to a mysterious suicide, monstrous creatures, and the horrifying wreck of another ship a hundred years earlier. To discover the answer to the disappearance of the Seawitch’s passengers and crew, Harper and Solis will need to put aside their differences and solve a deadly mystery more than a hundred years in the making…

But Harper has an unlikely ally in the form of Carlos–vampire and necromancer–whose own bloody past is tied to the cult and events in Lisbon, where the desecrated tomb of a sleeping king and a temple built of bones recall Harper’s very first paranormal case and hold clues to the cult’s true intentions.
